This post will not go into too much detail about coding, but I’m hoping that the code you’re about to use is understandable when you know what the function is doing. We will be using the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor in Excel to create our UDF to sum by color.
The UDF is then used similar to a standard function in Excel. However, the increasing use of colors has led to the increasing number of requests for help I receive to sum by color in Excel.Ĭurrently there is no function in Excel to sum by color, but you can create a UDF (User Defined Function) that will do this.
With improvements to the last few versions of Excel I see people using colors in cells more, the ability to filter by color adds to the benefit of using fill colors.
